INTENSE PULSED LIGHT PHOTOREJUVENATION
Dermatologists
have developed a non- surgical alternative to laser skin resurfacing
using intense pulses of light. Photorejuvenation, also known as
'photo facial,' is a non-invasive method that revitalizes your
appearance without recovery downtime. The procedure corrects
and may actually reverse a variety of skin conditions and facial
imperfections, particularly the signs of aging. This thoroughly
tested therapy provides long-term improvement to the complexion
and texture of the skin. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a FDA approved,
patented technology that pulses broad spectrum light to treat the
skin and eliminate signs of aging while stimulating collagen production.
Within a few treatments, you will see firmer and smoother skin
with a decrease in fine lines and light wrinkles.
IPL is also used to treat facial
spider veins, vascular birth marks, broken capillaries, hemangiomas
(slightly raised red blood vessels), rosacea, age spots, and freckles.
Some blemishes can be treated in one session, while others require
multiple treatments.
We individually customize a treatment program
based on your specific needs and desired results. Each treatment
is approximately 45 minutes, and is scheduled anywhere between
one to three weeks apart. The number of treatments necessary will
be determined by our highly trained medical aesthetician.
The best candidates for photo
facial treatments are: people who suffer from rosacea and experience
flushing and redness of their skin, those with early aging signs
and sun damage who desire a healthier, more youthful appearing
skin, people who don’t want to take time off for laser resurfacing
or chemical peels, and active people who want to improve their
skin but do not want to interfere with social or outdoor activities.
The light pulses by the IPL machine feel much
like the flick of a rubber band. Most people tolerate the minor
discomfort well. We use a topical anesthetic with cryo cooling
to make you more comfortable. There is no discomfort after treatments.
Immediately following a treatment, the skin may appear red and
flushed, and tiny capillaries may appear more visible temporarily.
Brown spots generally appear darker. All of these changes gradually
fade over a period of hours to a few days. After your first treatment,
your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone. These
improvements are gradual and will be increasingly more visible
after each treatment.
