MICRODERMABRASION

MicrodermabrasionWhat is Medical Microdermabrasion?

Medical Microdermabrasion is the safest and most effective non-surgical and non-invasive method available for skin exfoliation, wrinkle reduction, and pigment correction. It rejuvenates the skin by removing the dull, lifeless, sun-damaged epidermis and stimulates the production of new skin cells and collagen. Microdermabrasion increases oxygenation and enhances cell renewal, giving skin a younger, smoother, more vital complexion.

Who is a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion

Men and women of any skin color or skin type with minor skin problems are good candidates for microdermabrasion. The procedure removes the epidermal layers of the skin to alleviate many skin imperfections, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, broken capillaries, aging skin, sun damage, acne, scars, and blemishes. For people with dry skin, it removes dead skin cells for a smoother, polished look. For those with oily skin, it unclogs pores and improves the skin's texture. Microdermabrasion is for anyone who wants to improve skin appearance and reverse the signs of aging.

How Does the Procedure Work?

Using a hand-held device with gentle pressure and vacuum, medical grade aluminum oxide micro crystals are propelled across the surface of the skin to abrade the superficial layers. As the crystals contact the skin, they gently and precisely remove old, dead, and flaking epidermal cells and exfoliate and polish the skin beneath. Each treatment is customized for the individual's skin needs, and lasts about 45 minutes. The results of microdermabrasion are apparent immediately after the treatment, although additional treatments are necessary to achieve maximum effects.

Pre-Treatment Considerations

The client must be off Accutane and topical exfoliants such as Retin-A, Retinol, and Renova for a period of time prior to treatment. If the client has a history of herpes, fever blisters, cold sores, or shingles, prophylaxis medication may be necessary. It is recommended that clients do not sunbathe or tan before or during the series of treatments.

Post-Treatment Considerations

The daily use of sunscreen is necessary after microdermabrasion, as the treatment can cause photosensitivity. Clients should also avoid the use of glycolic acids and exfoliants for 2 to 3 days post treatment.

Contraindications

Microdermabrasion is not recommended for people who are sunburned, have an active skin infection or fever blisters, or those with uncontrolled diabetes or certain immune disorders.
