ACID PEELS

Acid-Peels
Cleopatra, like so many Egyptian queens before her, made bathing in sour milk famous. By the time she ascended to the throne, Egyptian women for nearly 3,500 years had used fermented grape skins from the bottom of wine barrels to enhance and beautify their skin. King Charles II through King Louis XVI and their French Courts washed their faces in aged wine. This is no lost secret of history, only a common link in the search for lasting beauty. The link is found in a group of naturally occurring acids known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHA's and Beta Hydroxy acid referred to as BHA'S. These organic fruit acids are derived from a variety of fruit and other foods such as lactic acid from sour milk, tartaric acid in grapes, malic acid from apples and citric acid in citrus fruits.

Today, scientists and biochemists have introduced numerous forms of acid which are proven in making beneficial changes to the skin. These acid peels are used to exfoliate the outer layer of the epidermis removing old, dry dead skin cells. Some acid peels reach the upper dermal layers stimulating skin metabolism. Different acids effect the skin in different ways.

Glycolic Acid Peels:

Glycolic Acid is thought to be the most effective of the AHA' s. Containing the smallest molecular structure, Glycolic Acid penetrates deeper into the epidermal layers of the skin. Sun damage can be repaired in many cases with a diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Pigment changes are seen with age spots, sunspots, red or blotchiness fading or becoming more even in color. Smoother, softer skin appears and is better able to hold moisture giving a youthful, healthy glow. In acne prone skins pores are unclogged, with scars being reduced in size. Oil production can be normalized.
The bad news is this does not happen in one peel. For best results a series of six peels is the recommended treatment. More may be necessary depending on the damage and end results desired. One thing is for sure, your skin will look and feel much better! The more you peel, the more the skin renews, forgetting the scars, blemishes and other troubles. New collagen is formed, resulting in a thicker, healthier collagen bed creating a younger look.

Salicylic Acid Peels:

Salicylic Acid is a multifunctional acid that is used to treat acne and blemish prone skin. For decades dermatologists have used Salicylic Acid to exfoliate without irritation and as an anti-inflammatory. The anti-microbial properties of Salicylic Acid help reduce acne-causing bacteria and aid in improving skin thickness. Barrier functions and collagen production become normalized in problem prone skins. This BHA has the ability to penetrate deep into the pores, cleaning out comedones (blackheads) and other impurities in the skin while reducing excess oil production. Like other acid peels, multiple treatments are required for best results.

Lactic Acid Peel:

Sensitive skins have found hope! Lactic Acid is used for cell renewal, gentle exfoliation and hydration in very sensitive, allergy prone skins and as treatment in reducing the inflammation and redness caused by Rosacea and other skin disorders. Lactic Acid has become a favorite peel for people who cannot use other forms of chemical exfoliation, yet want the benefits and results that can be achieved with acid and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are necessary, but the results are worth the time.
